WCSS 2021 Opening Postponed Due to COVID

Superintendent Suzanne Couey announced on December 31 that Wheeler County Schools will postpone reopening after the holiday break. “Due to the increase of COVID cases across our state, health district, and county, and an increase among our staff members, Wheeler County School System administrators have decided to postpone our return to school in order to protect the health and safety of our students, staff, and community,” Couey said.

The school system plans for staff to return Wednesday, January 6, and for students to return Monday, January 11. Staff members will wear masks and maintain social distance as much as possible upon their return. “We hope to follow this schedule, but the spread in our community is related to all our actions. Please continue to maintain social distance as much as possible, wear masks whenever in public, and wash hands frequently,” Couey requested.
