VHS Finally Taking The Field

For many Vidalia fans, players and coaches, the 2020 Football season seemed like it may never happen. First, there was a cancellation of all scrimmages by the GHSA. Then the ruling body of High School Sports in Georgia delayed the start of the regular season by two weeks. That was followed by another setback as members of the program were dealing with COVID-19 issues, which forced the cancellation of their opening game last week against Appling County. But good news is on the horizon. Three weeks after they were set to begin their season, the Vidalia Indians will open their 2020 season on the road Friday as they face the Emanuel County Institute Bulldogs in Twin City.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and Vidalia Head Coach Jason Cameron said they are excited to finally get the season underway, “We are so excited to get things kicked off and play against another great program in ECI. Football means so much to our program and community, so we are truly thankful that we will be able to compete this Friday. Games are not guaranteed, so we are preaching to our kids to not take anything for granted.”

The game, which can be heard on 98Q (97.7), will be the 14th in the series, with Vidalia holding an 11-2 advantage, including last year’s 24-21 come from behind win in Twin City.

As for this Friday's game, ECI has put some restrictions and recommendations into effect.
