NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE The Vidalia City Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate for City of Vidalia (Toombs) of 15.000 for ALL City of Vidalia citizens. This will require an increase in property taxes by 1.25 percent for Vidalia / Toombs residents and an increase in property taxes by 1.6 percent for Vidalia / Montgomery residents. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Vidalia Board of Education, 1001 North Street W, Vidalia, Georgia on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. The final millage rate will be adopted at the Regular Board Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. The tentative rate adjustment will result in an increase of .138 mills for Vidalia/Toombs and .148 mills for Vidalia/Montgomery. Without this tentative tax adjustment, the millage rates will be no more than 14.862 mills and 14.852. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 would be $5.52 for Vidalia/Toombs and $5.92 for Vidalia/Montgomery. SUPPORTIVE FAMILY – Retired Lyons Fire Chief Darel Corley’s family attended the Lyons City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7, to support Corley as he was recognized for his service.
NEW K-9 UNIT – Thanks to donations from the community, the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office now has a new K-9 Unit to help patrol the area, as K-9 Deputy Blue and Corporal Mark Murray recently graduated from the Narcotic Detection and Tracking certification program.
