SEWERSPILL INCIDENTREPORT – City of Vidalia – On August 25, 2025, between 8:00 AM and 10:25 AM, a major sewer spill occurred at Lift Station #2, located on Maple Drive within the City of Vidalia’s wastewater collection system. The incident was caused by a rupture in a 16inch force main at the lift station. An estimated 150,000 gallons of sewage were discharged into a nearby drainage ditch, which ultimately flows into Virgil Creek. In response, the affected area was promptly disinfected using hydrated lime and thoroughly cleaned to mitigate environmental impact and public health risks. SUPPORTIVE FAMILY – Retired Lyons Fire Chief Darel Corley’s family attended the Lyons City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7, to support Corley as he was recognized for his service.
NEW K-9 UNIT – Thanks to donations from the community, the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office now has a new K-9 Unit to help patrol the area, as K-9 Deputy Blue and Corporal Mark Murray recently graduated from the Narcotic Detection and Tracking certification program.
