A gang member was sentenced to prison in the Montgomery County Superior Court on Tuesday, September 2.
Oconee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Sarah Wall sentenced Ta’Lawrence Terraine Vickers, 39, of Atlanta – a.k.a. “Saga” – to serve 10 years in prison and 10 years on probation for violation of the Street Gang Prevention and Terrorism Act during a hearing.
Vickers was arrested continued from page
by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Task Force in Augusta on May 21, 2021, after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined Vickers to be a suspect in the murder of Zacheriah Douglas Wright, who was found wounded and abandoned on RT Lane in the Kibbee community of rural Montgomery County on May 17, 2021. Upon being found by a citizen, authorities were contacted and Wright was transported to the Memorial Health Meadows Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy was performed on Wright and results indicated that Wright died from a single gunshot wound to the torso area.
Vickers was charged with malice murder, felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and participation in criminal gang activities. These charges were dismissed through a nolle prosequi – a formal declaration that the prosecutor would no longer pursue them against the defendant in the case. Instead, a new case was opened against Vickers, charging him with violation of the Street Gang Terrorism Prevention Act.
He received credit for time served in prison while awaiting trial, and will therefore, serve 6 years in incarceration before serving probation.
