The Wheeler County Library is inviting residents to join the community health fair at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 8, to receive free health screenings, mental wellness resources, and more.
The event will help to provide the public with more information and resources to help ensure all citizens are living their healthiest lifestyle and provide general health screenings on the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Health trailer. The event will offer women the chance to receive mammograms through Atrium Health’s continued from page
Mobile Mammography Unit.
The mobile mammography unit offers advanced 3D mammograms in a private, comfortable setting. These mammograms do have a charge, but patients without insurance may receive financial help to receive the service. To be eligible to receive a mammogram on the mobile unit, women should be at least 35 years old (at least 40 years old if without insurance), have had no breast cancer treatment or diagnosis within the last two years, have no new breast health concerns (such as lumps or skin changes), not be currently breastfeeding or within 6 months postpartum, and not have had a mammogram in the last year.
Appointments for mammograms are not required, but are strongly encouraged to help decrease wait times. To make an appointment, call (478) 6332003, or email Teresa.Van-Horne@ AtriumHealth. org.
All attendees should bring a valid photo ID and insurance card if planning to partake in mammograms or screenings. The Wheeler County Library is located at 61 W. Main Street in Alamo. For more information, call (748) 374-4711.
