The Toombs County High School golf teams turned in a strong performance Monday at the Area 2-A Division I Championship, held at the scenic Double Oaks Golf Club in Commerce. Facing tough competition, both teams showed grit and determination, with the boys earning a trip to the state tournament and one Lady Dawg qualifying individually.

The boys’ team finished as Area Runner-Up, carding a team total of 330—just six strokes behind first-place Vidalia. Vick Moore and Drew Woodruff led the way for the Bulldogs, each firing a 79. Teammates Noah Anken and Gavin Ward contributed matching rounds of 86, sealing Toombs County’s second-place finish and a spot in the GHSA State Tournament. The boys will compete May 19–20 at Arrowhead Pointe in Elberton.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Dawgs finished fourth with a team score of 234. Though they narrowly missed qualifying as a team, standout Sarah Ellis Walker shot a 116, earning an individual berth to the state tournament as the lowest-scoring player outside of the top three teams. Jean Peterson also posted a solid round of 118, highlighting the team’s continued growth and effort.

With the postseason now underway, both squads have much to be proud of. The Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs will carry the momentum from Area into the final stretch of the season as they represent Toombs County on the state stage.
