CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner: Will the insane shutdown ever end?

Remember, this is not only a terrible burden for TSA workers and their families, and a major inconvenience for millions of American travelers. It is also a grave safety risk, given the current elevated danger of terrorism associated with the war in Iran. In recent weeks, there have been multiple killings around the country committed by terrorists angry about the war.

Tim Graham, executive editor of News-Busters and director of media analysis for the Media Research Center: Elitist 'Public' Broadcasting Defines 'Viewpoint Discrimination'.

These people have the audacity to claim they're on the wrong side of 'viewpoint discrimination.' It's the same way that liberals insist you can't object to 'The View' having a guest disparity of 128 to 2, or latenight comedians favoring liberal guests 99% of the time (as per our 2025 counts). At least these shows didn't take conservative money and bash them over the head with it.

Luckily, Congress rescinded the subsidies for PBS and NPR (for now), and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting shut down their propaganda-backing shop. But as soon as Democrats get back control of Congress, they'll start trying to subsidize it all over again. Why wouldn't Democrats want to fund DNC Media? That's why the entire 'public broadcasting' concept is an enormous fraud.

Hugh Hewitt, Fox News contributor and host of 'The Hugh Hewitt Show': President Trump is on the cusp of a historic achievement.

The 'Trump Derangement Syndrome'afflicted people have seen their illness now manifest in the inability to distinguish between the purely evil and existential threat that Iran posed to the entire world from the actions of a popularly elected president who is as unlike an authoritarian as to surrender his favorite weapon for any regime not named Iran — tariffs — to the United Stated Supreme Court. 'Kings' do not defer to the authority of an independent judiciary, but of course Trump has, again and again.

The result needed in the war has not yet been achieved. But if President Trump delivers it, only his critics incapable of basic objectivity will deny the significance of his order to take down the regime that has bedeviled the world for almost a half century.

Pastor Corey Brooks, founder and Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Church of Chicago and the CEO of Project H.O.O.D.: I've seen the bodies on my block — and I know what really stops the killing.

When opportunity enters a neighborhood, violence leaves. When opportunity enters a neighborhood, the strong rise over the weak. When opportunity enters a neighborhood, the boards come off the windows of shuttered businesses. When opportunity enters a neighborhood, the language changes from bad faith to future plans. I’m betting my whole life on this. I know it is the truth, and you do too.
