CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner: Does America have the resolve to deport illegal border crossers?

Still, keep in mind the activists' goal. They don't want ICE to deport illegal immigrants in a safe, smooth and efficient way. They want to stop the deportations. And after the mass illegal crossings of the Biden years, that is the compelling issue: Will the U.S. end up allowing the illegal crossers to stay? Doing so will create an enormous incentive for future illegal crossers. And then, what is to stop another mass incursion the next time a Democratic president, under pressure from his party's activist groups, opens the border again?

Matt Vespa, Managing Editor at Townhall. com: It's a question everyone is asking about the Ilhan Omar syringe attack…and I can see why.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) held a town hall event in Minneapolis last night. It got disrupted when a disheveled white guy squirted her with some fluid out of a syringe. It emitted an odor, and there are some who are suggesting that this could be another fake attack incident, a hoax worthy of Jussie Smollett’s talents. …

Still, the man sat right in front of her, and the mayhem seemed a bit coincidental as the Justice Department opened an investigation into her financials. The reactions were solid as usual, but I can see how there could be questions.

The key is whether the suspect is identified and charged.

Mark Lewis, native Texan currently living in Thailand, political commentator, and author: Is Minnesota the first shots in America’s next civil war?

Right now, in the protests in Minnesota, Democrats are hoping that they can convince enough people that ICE is a monster, Trump is a dictator, and that the people will vote the Democratic Party into power. In power, they will have control of the legislature and pass laws that will give illegal immigrants citizenship and the right to vote. I have no doubt that is what they will do to solidify their power. If it doesn't work, then well, most Marxist governments used civil war to gain power.

Don't be surprised if the Left in America eventually does the same thing.

Pastor Corey Brooks, founder and Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Church of Chicago and CEO of Project H.O.O.D. (Helping Others Obtain Destiny), the church's local mission: The church is holy ground, not a stage for the left's political rage.

And who turned out to be the face of all of this? Don Lemon. He rushed into that church believing he was about to break the story of the year. He cared nothing for the pastors or their congregation. He claimed to be a Christian, but what Christian puts the pursuit of a manufactured story over worship and prayer? When he saw the reality of what he had done in the following days, he resorted to blaming White supremacy for the backlash. No, Don — the race card expired a while ago, but you keep swiping it because it’s all you’ve got, and sadly, so do others. The backlash was squarely due to you putting the chase for cheap clicks over Jesus. You know what the best cure for fears of irrelevancy is? God.
