Vidalia 12U Girls Take 2nd In Lyons


The Vidalia Recreation Department 12U girls' softball team brought home runner-up honors following a hard-fought showing at the Annual Lyons Youth Tournament, held May 18 through May 20. Hosted by the Lyons Recreation Department, the four-team bracket provided plenty of action over the three-day stretch, with Vidalia ultimately battling their way to the Championship Game before falling to Emanuel County. vs. Telfair Co.
Vidalia opened the tournament with a dominant performance against Telfair County, cruising to a 21-0 run-rule victory. The VRD bats were dialed in from the first pitch, jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning. They followed that up with six more runs in the second to build a commanding 14-0 advantage, before putting the game entirely out of reach by plating seven more runs in the third inning. vs. Emanuel Co.
The second round proved to be a much tougher test as Vidalia faced off against Emanuel County. VRD struggled to find a rhythm at the plate, managing just four hits throughout the contest. After two scoreless innings, Emanuel broke the tie with a run in the top of the third and added two more in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Vidalia showed some life in the bottom of the fifth, pushing a run across to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Emanuel responded with

The defeat dropped Vidalia into the losers' bracket for an elimination game against Appling County. Unfazed by the setback, VRD immediately took control of the game. They exploded for seven runs in the top of the first inning and tacked on two more in the second to establish a quick 9-0 lead. From there, the Vidalia defense took over, executing their assignments and shutting down the Appling County lineup for the remainder of the game to secure the 9-0 shutout and punch their ticket to the finals. vs. Emanuel Co.
Championship In the Championship Game, Vidalia earned a rematch against Emanuel County. VRD struck first this time, getting on the board with a run in the top of the first inning. However, the early momentum was short-lived. Emanuel answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. Emanuel steadily built on their advantage, adding a run in the second inning and two more in the fourth. Despite a resilient effort in the dugout, Vidalia could not close the gap, falling 5-1 and securing a well-earned second-place finish for the tournament.
