Bulldogs Take 3rd In State

The Toombs County High School golf teams wrapped up their seasons this past week by competing in the GHSA Class A-Division I State Tournament at Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course in Elberton, with the Bulldogs delivering a historic performance on the boys’ side.

Boys

The Toombs County men’s team finished 3rd overall in the two-day event, recording the best State Tournament finish in school history. The Bulldogs posted a combined team score of 660, shooting a 331 on day one and improving to a 329 on day two.

Leading the way for the Dawgs was Gavin Ward, who finished tied for 11th overall individually with rounds of 79 and 81. Other contributing scores included Drew Woodruff with rounds of 87 and 79, Vick Moore with scores of 82 and 86, Noah Anken with rounds of 85 and 84, and Rhys Ward, who carded consistent rounds of 85 on both days.

second with a score of 651, while Elbert County High School captured the State Championship with a team score of 643.

Girls

On the girls’ side, the Lady Dawgs finished 12th overall in the State Tournament field.

Leading Toombs County was Anzley Bryant, who posted a twoday total of 238, shooting 119 on both days. Jean Peterson followed with a 241, improving from a 124 on day one to a 117 on day two. Sarah Ellis Walker finished with a total score of 242, carding rounds of 119 and 123.

The State Tournament appearance capped off another successful season for both programs, highlighted by postseason appearances from both teams and a historic podium finish for the Bulldogs.
