LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Boys & Girls Club
Needs Help to Regain
Solid Footing
Dear Editor: The undersigned are past board members, including Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers of the local Boys and Girls Club. We primarily served for a number of years surrounding the move from the Martin Luther King Drive facility to its current location. The purpose of our letter is to reinforce the Advance article in last week’s edition dealing with the status of the Club. It recently closed because they were out of money and also had an unsecured debt of over $150,000.
Moving forward only, it is important to point out that the current board and CEO inherited the current financial predicament. They have stepped forward with a resolve to bring the Club back to its previous status. Also, the Club would not be open today if they had not secured a $60,000 donation from a local physician. This donation got the doors back open, but the Club needs a certain amount of local funding every year in order to keep the doors open. This has always been the case.
We hope the communities of Lyons and Vidalia will rally around this very important organization and help the new board put the Club back on solid footing.
