The regular season culminated in a rivalry clash last week as the Vidalia High School Indians and the Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball teams met for a decisive three-game Region series.

Home-field advantage proved to be the defining factor across the board, with Vidalia taking Tuesday and Friday's matchups on their own turf, while Toombs claimed Thursday's contest in Lyons. The series win cements the Indians in second place in the Region behind Savannah Christian, leaving the Bulldogs to settle into the third-place spot as both programs gear up for the postseason.

Game 1

Tuesday's opener in Vidalia was a tense pitchers' duel early on, with both lineups held in check through four scoreless frames. But the dam broke in the bottom of the fifth. The Indians' offense exploded for a six-run inning, sparked by an RBI from Henry Adams and an RBI single off the bat of Eion Ryals. With the bases loaded, Toombs struggled to find the strike zone, leading to a walked-in run by Ryan Brantley and a hit-by-pitch that plated another for Veer Patel. Banks Hopkins grounded into a fielder's choice to score the fifth run of the frame, and Reece Wall capped the surge with an RBI to make it 6-0.

Vidalia tacked on four more runs in the sixth to enforce a 10-0 shutout.

Veer Patel earned the win on the mound, tossing a gem with just three hits allowed over six innings of work.

Game 2

Thursday saw the series shift to Lyons, where the Bulldogs flipped the script to secure a 4-0 shutout of their own. Toombs wasted no time, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Lawton Toole. Joseph Owens extended the lead in the second with an RBI single down the right-field line, and Brody Benton provided the power in the third with a solo shot over the fence to make it 3-0. continued from page

A final insurance run in the sixth was more than enough for Ty Hutchinson, who dominated the bump for Toombs. Hutchinson gave up a mere two hits across five innings to pick up the win.

Game 3

Returning to Vidalia for Friday's rubber match, the Indians' bats woke back up. Veer Patel set the tone early with an RBI single in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, then doubled his impact in the third with a two-run double.

Up 3-0, Vidalia kept applying pressure, plating two in the fourth and another in the fifth. Ryan Brantley put the game completely out of reach in the sixth inning, launching a three-run homer to cap off a commanding 9-0 victory and clinch the series for the Indians.

Now, both squads turn their attention to the first round of the GHSA State Baseball Playoffs starting this week. Vidalia will host Commerce for a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 4:00 p.m., with a decisive third game scheduled for Friday at 4:00 p.m. if necessary.

Meanwhile, Toombs hits the road to face Thomasville for a Thursday doubleheader at 4:00 p.m., with a potential game three slated for Friday at 1:00 p.m.
