2nd Annual Onion Festival Golf Classic A Success

The Rotary Club of Vidalia took to the greens at Swainsboro Country Club on Thursday, April 16, hosting the 2nd Annual Vidalia Onion Festival Golf Classic. The turnout was strong, with 22 teams and 88 golfers hitting the links for an afternoon of steady competition and community backing. Beyond the scorecards, the day served a greater purpose. The tournament successfully raised more than $9,000. Those proceeds are slated to directly benefit local community projects, student scholarships, and ongoing Alzheimer’s research, giving the afternoon's drives and putts a bit more weight for everyone involved.
The event kicked off with a noon lunch before golfers scattered across the course for a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. The afternoon featured several oncourse contests and prize opportunities that kept the competitive energy high throughout the 18 holes.
When the final scorecards were tallied, TQ Construction emerged as the day's overall victor. The first-place foursome of Rusty Mosley, CJ Seabolt, Chris Seabolt, and Chad Zorn navigated the course effectively to secure the top spot. Sweet Onion Exterior Wash, represented by Jackson Toole, Grady Blount, Bryant Blount, and Dylan Bennett, earned a hardfought second-place finish. Rounding out the top tier of the leaderboard was the Pineland Bank squad, featuring Tres Herin, Wendell Dixon, Mitch Johnson, and Greg Lumley in third place.
Individual efforts were also recognized during the post-round wrap-up. Landry Mead showcased his power off the tee to claim the Long Drive Championship, while Landon Spivey dialed in his irons to take home the Closest to the Pin title.
The Rotary Club of Vidalia expressed its sincere appreciation to the participating golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and the staff at Swainsboro Country Club for ensuring the event ran smoothly. With a successful second outing in the books, organizers are already laying the groundwork and looking forward to an even bigger tournament next year.
