The Vidalia Downtown Development Authority (DDA) recently assisted NJ Edkin LLC. in securing $250,000 of funding from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Downtown Development Revolving Loan Fund to revitalize the old Southern Davis Business Products building, located at 110 E. First Street.

Cities and Main Street Associations throughout the state can apply on behalf of the city or private business owners for loans from the Downtown Development Revolving Loan Fund, which gives up to $250,000 to continued from page

capital projects working to revitalize and enhance structures in the core of historic downtown areas through loans, whose average interest rate ranges between 2-3%. This loan will be repaid over 15 years.

Because Vidalia has been a classic Georgia Main Street City since 1989, they are able to qualify for this state loan program.

This money will help to revamp the 3,375 sq. ft. building, which will house storefronts on the ground floor and loft style apartments above the stores on the second floor. An exact time frame of the project’s beginning or completion has not been announced.

“We are so excited to see business owners invest in another building in our downtown. We have such a beautiful and historic downtown area, and I’m proud to see that others in our community are recognizing that,” Downtown Economic Development Director Tonya Parker emphasized. “These renovations have been very long overdue, and I am excited to see what all NJ Edkin LLC. is able to do with the location.”

Parker also commented on the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Downtown Development Revolving Loan Fund, as she stated that the Vidalia DDA could help businesses apply for the loan on behalf of property owners with projects involving rehabilitation of downtown businesses.
