MCHS Soccer In Region Tourney

Both Montgomery County High School Eagles soccer teams put together solid runs in last week's Region Tournament. The Lady Eagles fought their way to the Championship Game to finish as the region runner- up, while the boys rebounded from a tough semifinal loss to secure a third-place finish.
Girls vs. Treutlen
The Lady Eagles opened their tournament run on Wednesday with a tightly contested matchup against Treutlen. Defense dictated the pace for most of the afternoon, but Montgomery County ultimately found the breakthrough they needed. Tamarley Hansley delivered the lone goal of the contest to put MCHS on the board. On the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Makailah Moore was a wall in the net, recording nine saves to preserve the 1-0 shutout and punch the team's ticket to the title game.
Girls vs. GMC
The championship clash against Georgia Military College was another heavy defensive grind. Neither squad was willing to yield an inch in a scoreless first half. However, GMC managed to find the back of the net in the second half to break the stalemate. That single goal proved to be the difference, as GMC claimed the region title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Lady Eagles.
Boys vs. Wheeler
On the boys' side, the Eagles started their tournament strong on Monday by blanking the Wheeler County Bulldogs. After a quiet first half, the MCHS offense caught fire, pouring in three second-half goals to pull away for a 3-0 win. Issak Sistrunk led the charge with a pair of goals, and Abe Garcia capped off the scoring to put the game on ice.
Boys vs. GMC
Wednesday brought a much tougher test against GMC. The Eagles struggled to find their footing early, and GMC took full advantage, rolling to a 7-0 victory after scoring all seven of their goals in the opening half.
Boys vs. Treutlen
Shaking off the loss, the boys bounced back on Friday in the consolation game against the Treutlen County Vikings. Treutlen managed to get on the board in the first half, but the Eagles answered with two goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead into the break. MCHS stayed aggressive in the second half, adding an insurance goal to close out a 3-1 victory and claim third place in the region. Abe Garcia was the offensive catalyst with two goals, while Ramone Garcia netted the third.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Eagles currently sit at 8-4 on the year with an impressive 5-1 mark in region play. The boys hold a 7-5 overall record and are 2-3 in the region. Both squads will take this week off to rest and recover during Spring Break before getting back onto the pitch next week.
