Vikings Open With 2 Wins
The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team opened their season last week on a high note, securing two victories to start the year. vs. Twiggs Co.
The Vikings began their campaign with a dominant run-rule victory over the Twiggs County Cobras at home on Tuesday. They followed that performance with a solid road win against the 5A Northside Eagles of Warner Robins on Thursday.
In the season opener against Twiggs County, the Vikings received a standout performance from Jack Walker, who drove in four runs to lead the team. The offense exploded early, putting up nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Walker was instrumental in the rally, driving in all four of his runs in the opening frame with an inside- the-park home run and a two-RBI single. Gavin Bailey and Skyler Johnson each drove in a run in the first, while CJ Jackson added two RBIs to help Treutlen jump out to a 9-0 lead.
The Vikings added five more runs in the second inning to extend the lead. They closed out the game with a final run in the third to secure a 15-0 victory. vs. Northside
Traveling to Warner Robins to face Northside, Treutlen struck first in the top of the first inning. Caden Parrish delivered an RBI single, and the Vikings plated another run to take an early 2-0 lead. Northside answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs to tie the game at 2-2. The Vikings reclaimed the lead for good in the top of the third inning with a five-run surge, highlighted by a two-RBI double from DJ Steptoe. Northside managed two runs in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the gap to 7-4.
Treutlen added an insurance run in the top of the sixth to make it 8-4. The Vikings held on for the win, with Jack Walker earning the victory on the mound.
Looking ahead, the Vikings hosted Dooly County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday when they host Wilkinson County at 5:30 p.m.
The team travels to Dooly County on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. game. They wrap up the week on Saturday with a doubleheader at Putnam County starting at 11:00 a.m.
