Eagles Season Ends with Two Losses to Hawkinsville

The Montgomery County High School basketball teams saw their seasons come to a close last week during the Region Tournament. Both the Lady Eagles and the Eagles faced off against the Hawkinsville Red Devils, and both contests ended in defeat, including a heartwrenching overtime loss for the boys' squad.

Girls vs. Hawkinsville

The Lady Eagles opened the tournament action in the play-in game against the Lady Red Devils. It was a defensive battle defined by low scoring on both ends of the court. Despite keeping the game within reach until the final buzzer, Montgomery County fell just short in a 23-21 loss. The defeat marked the end of the 2025-2026 campaign for the Lady Eagles, who finished the year with a record of 3-23.

Boys vs. Hawkinsville

The boys' matchup proved to be an even more dramatic affair that required extra time to decide. Hawkinsville controlled the early momentum, holding a 13-7 lead after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 28-23 by halftime. However, the Eagles rallied coming out of the locker room, surging ahead in the third quarter to take a 4239 lead.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with the Red Devils managing to knot the score at 53-53 as regulation time expired, forcing overtime. In the extra period, Hawkinsville managed to outpace Montgomery County 10-7 to seal the victory. The 63-60 final score brought the Eagles' season to an end with a final record of 8-18.
