Bulldogs Soccer Splits Opening Week with Jeff Davis and East Laurens
The Toombs County High School soccer teams kicked off their regular season last week with a mix of tough competition and dominant performances. Facing off against the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets and the East Laurens Falcons, both the boys' and girls' squads navigated early setbacks to secure their first victories of the year. vs. Jeff Davis
Opening against Jeff Davis, the Lady Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm early, conceding two goals in the first half to trail 2-0 at the break. While the offense managed to get on the board in the second half with a goal from Mishi Smith, the Yellow Jackets added another of their own to seal a 3-1 victory. In the boys' matchup, defense dictated the pace early on, with neither team finding the net in a scoreless first half. The action picked up after halftime, but despite a goal from Victor Valentin, the Bulldogs ultimately fell 2-1 as Jeff Davis put away two second-half goals. vs. E. Laurens
Both teams bounced back emphatically against East Laurens. The Lady Bulldogs offense exploded for a 9-1 rout over the Lady Falcons, showcasing a balanced attack. Kanijah Toby headlined the scoring effort with a hat trick, while Mishi Smith and Emma Wright each netted two goals. Rayne Sears and Kylah Gay also contributed a goal apiece to the lopsided win.
The boys' team followed suit with a convincing 5-1 victory over the Falcons. After holding a slim 1-0 lead at halftime, the Bulldogs found their stride in the second half, adding four more goals while limiting East Laurens to a single score. Osvaldo Tinoco led the charge with two goals, supported by solo strikes from Jeffery Perez, Palmer Davis, and Jayko Gonzalez to cap off a successful rebound for the program.
This week the Bulldogs will host Southeast Bulloch on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
