The Xi Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. — an international African-American social fraternity founded in 1911 at Howard University in Washington D.C. – recently recognized Deacon Mack Smith as their 2025 Citizen of the Year.

Deacon Smith, known in the community as “Deac”, has dedicated his life to faith, family, and service. His life is a testament to faithfulness, humility, and service.

Deacon Smith was ordained as a Deacon in 1996 and faithfully serves as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry at New Vision Missionary Baptist Church. He has served 22 years as a member of the Toombs County Democratic Committee, 12 years as a member of the Community Men of Action and is a member of the E.L.I.C.E., Inc. Executive Board (Enhancing Low-Income Communities Economically). He is a valued employee at Tumi Luggage for the past 26 years, where he serves as Supervisor and General Technician. He is married to Mrs. Deborah Smith and they are the parents of seven children, along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Whether in his church, workplace, or community, Deacon Smith continues to lead with integrity and compassion – living out his faith through his actions each day.

The award was presented to Deacon Smith by Dr. Henry Hankerson, Basileus/President of the Xi Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
