Vikings Face Tough Week Of Competition
The Treutlen County High School basketball teams had a busy week on the hardwood, facing off against Dooly County, Warren County, and East Laurens. It proved to be a difficult stretch for the Vikings, with the boys picking up the only win of the week in a blowout victory over Dooly County, while the Lady Vikings dropped both of their contests. Tuesday vs. Dooly Co.
The teams hosted the Dooly County Bobcats on Tuesday, splitting the region results.
The Lady Vikings fought hard but fell short, losing 41-33. The boys fared much better, dominating the Bobcats from start to finish to secure a massive 82-42 victory.
Friday vs. Warren Co.
The boys were back in action on Friday against the Warren County Screaming Devils, but they struggled to find their rhythm early. The Vikings found themselves in a deep hole, trailing 32-10 by the end of the first quarter.
The deficit grew to 47-18 by halftime. Despite a continued effort, Treutlen could not climb back into the game and suffered a 73-52 loss. Saturday vs. E. Laurens
Both teams took the court on Saturday against the East Laurens Falcons.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Vikings had no answer for the Lady Falcons' offense. East Laurens jumped out to a 24-7 lead in the first quarter and extended that advantage to 45-14 by halftime. The Lady Vikings ultimately lost the game 78-24.
The boys’ game was a much tighter contest. Treutlen trailed narrowly at 14-13 after the first period and went into the locker room down just 30-27 at halftime.
The Falcons created separation in the third quarter, taking a 54-40 lead heading into the final period. The Vikings mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter but could not close the gap completely, falling 6760.
This week the Vikings hosted Hawkinsville on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday Jenkins County will be in Soperton at 6:30 p.m., and then on Saturday they will host Emanuel County Institute at 6:00 p. m.
