James Shell will join the Lyons City Council on January 1, as he defeated incumbent City Councilman Tracy Johnson in a run-off election for the Ward 1 seat on Tuesday, December 2, continued from page
Shell and Johnson faced off in a run-off election after the pair received the most votes in the November 4 election, when the pair and former City Councilman Larry Griggers all sought the position. On the November 4 election, Griggers, Johnson, and Shell went head-to-head for a chance to represent Ward 1. Griggers received 9 votes, Johnson received 30 votes, and Shell received 38 votes – no one received the required 51% total of ballots cast. Because of this, a runoff election was called, as Johnson and Shell were set to run against each other to determine who will take the Council seat in January.
On December 2, Shell defeated Johnson by 5 votes, as Shell received 35 votes and Johnson received 30 votes.
Shell’s new term will begin on January 1, and will last until December 31, 2030.
