December is here, and it is officially the most wonderful time of the year! Several cities and communities will kick off the holiday season with their annual Christmas parades this weekend.
The City of Lyons will begin their Christmas festivities first, as the Lyons Lighted Christmas Parade starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 5. This year’s parade is sure to have a groovy essence, with lots of music and colorful lights, as the event is themed, “Where Christmas Lights Meet Disco Nights.”
Prior to the parade, individuals may visit Santa Claus at the gazebo in Downtown Lyons from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. for free photo opportunities and a chance to tell old St. Nick what they’re hoping for this Christmas. Several vendors will also be set up during continued from page
this time. Lyons’ parade will have a small quiet zone, where parade participants limit sirens and loud music so that individuals with sensory issues may enjoy the event. The quiet zone will be located along U.S. Highway 280 from the roadway’s intersection with South Jefferson Street until the roadway’s intersection with South Washington Street.

The City of Vidalia’s annual Christmas parade – which will celebrate the March of the Toys – will hit the streets at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, December 6. This parade, which will be led by Grand Marshal Wilson Johnson, is sure to excite individuals of all ages, as the floats celebrate current and past iconic toys.
The Vidalia Christmas Parade will also feature a quiet zone for spectators with sensory issues. This zone will be located at the beginning of the parade route, from the intersection of U.S. Highway 280 and Church Street until the intersection of U.S. Highway 280 and Jackson Street.

The City of Alamo will celebrate Christmas with their annual Christmas in the City Celebration on December 6, which will end the night with a parade dedicated to the Wheeler County High School Bulldogs, as the city celebrates the school’s history football season. During the season, the Bulldogs advanced to the state football playoffs for the first time in the school’s history, and made it to the Elite Eight before being defeated by Clinch County by five points. The parade will emphasize the city’s pride in these student athletes, as the team will serve as the parade’s grand marshals.

Cedar Crossing will kick off the Christmas season with their annual Lighted Christmas Parade, which is slated to hit the streets at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 8. The parade will be led by Grand Marshal Bonnie Brantley, and is themed “Christmas on the Porch.”
