Vikings Rout MCHS Eagles

The Treutlen County High School Vikings delivered a dominant performance against their rivals, the Montgomery County High School Eagles, routing the Eagles 46–6 on Thursday night at Bobby Driggers Stadium in Soperton. The victory extends the Vikings' winning streak in the rivalry series to 3 consecutive games.

The highly anticipated rivalry contest started with a bang for the Vikings. Junior Peyton Miller immediately showcased his electrifying speed, taking the opening kickoff 71 yards to the endzone. Though the PAT was partially blocked, Treutlen seized a 6–0 lead just 15 seconds into the game.

After the defense forced a quick punt, the offense marched down the field, culminating in Miller's second score—a 5-yard rushing touchdown— with 7:19 remaining in the first quarter. Leo Brinson split the uprights on the PAT, pushing the lead to 13–0.

The Eagles mounted a strong drive into Vikings territory, threatening to score, but Miller once again proved to be the difference-maker. He intercepted an Eagles pass at the goal line, crushing the scoring opportunity and preserving the shutout.

The second quarter saw the Vikings' defense get in on the scoring action. Junior linebacker Zan Stokes intercepted an Eagles pass and blazed 85 yards for a pick-six with 7:23 left in the half. Brinson’s successful PAT extended the margin to 20–0. Before the break, Zion Brown added another touchdown for Treutlen with a 15-yard run. The subsequent PAT was missed, sending the Vikings into halftime with a commanding 26–0 lead.

Montgomery County found the end zone on their first drive of the second half. Landon Williams broke free for a 31yard touchdown run at the 10:05 mark of the third quarter, which would be the Eagles' only score of the night. The PAT was blocked, making the score 26–6.

The fourth quarter was a testament to the Vikings' defense, which repeatedly stuffed the Eagles on fourth down, ensuring the rivals remained out of the end zone. Meanwhile, the Vikings' ground attack continued to pile on the points. Stokes punched in 2 more rushing touchdowns from 15 and 26 yards, and Miller capped off his sensational night with a 34yard touchdown run. The final score stood at 46–6.

The victory marks the Vikings' third consecutive win, all coming in Region play, and moves their overall season record to 5–2 and an unblemished 3–0 in the Region standings. The Vikings will return to Bobby Driggers Stadium this Friday night, to host the Dooly County Bobcats at 7:30 p.m.
