The JR Trippe Middle School Girls Cross Country Team won their Region Meet at Toombs County on Wednesday of last week, against a talented group of teams from North and South Tattnall, Metter and Toombs. The Chiefs were led by the Individual Region Champion, Ginny Meredith, followed by Zoey Achenbach, Sophie English, Analeigh English, Janie Beck, and Abigail Vassey.
The Boys Team also ran well coming away with second place and missing first place by only a few points. The boys team consisted of Champ Sharpton, John Smith, Peyton Coursey, Majid Nail Shaibi, Joel Hussey, and Gabriel Renteria.
With first and second place this year in Region, this is the best year for Chiefs Cross Country in the last few years.
Coach Gray Meredith said, “We were blessed with a great group of runners this year. They worked hard over the summer and coming into the school year. As special as a championship is, we are more excited about their growth off of the trail. This year we have really pushed the idea of not backing down from hard challenges. We prepare for them and face them with determination and perseverance.”
The Chiefs final meet will be at the Middle School State Championships at Bleckley County on October 11.
