Montgomery County Schools invited dozens of parents and students to learn more about school and local resources, organizations, and clubs during the annual Eagle Expo on Tuesday, October 7.

The Eagle Expo is the district’s unique way of hosting the required Title 1 meeting, which is a manda- continued from page

tory annual meeting for a school system to inform parents of their right to be involved in their child’s education, and to discuss topics, such as curriculum assessments, and how Title 1 federal funding is used within the school system. These meetings also allow parents to give feedback on the school’s policies and plans, further engaging the parents in their children’s education.

Montgomery County Schools takes this parent engagement a step further by providing attendees with a free meal and childcare, so that they may focus on the topics being discussed. The district administrators also keep the event lively and engaging, as door prizes are given out to attendees.

After the meeting, students and parents have the opportunity to peruse several booths of school departments, local resources, and clubs or organizations to help them learn more about all that is available to students.

On October 7, dozens of parents and students attended the event and learned more about their school and community, helping to further parent engagement within the district and student involvement in school clubs and organizations. Montgomery County Superintendent Ronda Hightower commented on the event’s success, saying, “ I would like to thank [Montgomery County Schools Federal Programs Director] Mrs. [Julie] Harrelson and [Montgomery County Schools Curriculum, Pre-K, and Parent Engagement Director] Mrs. [Leigh Anne] Helms for spearheading all the work that went into making this event such a success. They coordinated with many other school level and district level staff, as well as with many different community organizations.”

She continued, “Seeing the high number of community organizations at the Eagle Expo is a testament to Montgomery County’s commitment to bring the absolute best for our students and parents. It truly is going to take all of us to ensure the success of each child, and the people of Montgomery County once again demonstrated their willingness to be a part of providing that success.”

The Eagle Expo is held annually each Fall, and all Montgomery County Schools’ students’ families are encouraged to attend.
