The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons Cross Country teams ran at the Sandshark Invitational on October 11. Despite the weather and mud, the Barons men's and women's runners all achieved a season PR during the race. In the Men's 8k race, the Barons team took home 10th place amongst a strong lineup of teams competing. In the Women's 5k, the Barons took home 12th place in the race.
Lillie Brown led the Barons women's team, finishing 57th with a time of 21:23.5. RaaShonda Khalil was the next Baron to finish with a time of 26:24.9 in 95th place. Reese Bryant finished third for the Barons with a time of 26:53.5, before Caryn Cummings with a time of 28:57.3. Danaysia Roberts was the final runner for the Barons women's team and finished with a time of 33:49.9.
Jonah Galli was the first runner to cross the finish line for the Barons on his birthday, setting a school record with a time of 27:11.1, and finished 36th overall. Samuel Skinner was the next Baron to finish in 48th with a time of 27:55.2, just a few places before Eric Smith, who finished with a time of 28:21.7. Jacob Hackenberry placed 76th overall with a time of 29:26.2, and Zamarvian Green finished right behind him, just three seconds behind. Dylan Fletcher and Marqayvius McNeal took 94th and 95th place, helping the Baorns score points.
Head Coach James Frank shared his excitement about the team's mindset, 'Everyone ran for a PR on the season. It was a wet and soggy day, with puddles everywhere, but they didn't allow that to hold them back and gave their very best.' The team aims to prepare for the postseason, with their next opportunity to run being the NAIA App Challenge on October 24.
