CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Larry Elder, bestselling author and nationally syndicated radio talk-show host: How did Oct. 7 become a distant memory?

President Donald Trump recently offered Hamas a plan to end the 'genocide.' Even Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, one of many Western countries choosing to recognize Palestine as an independent country, said, 'Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and follow this plan.'

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and ex-U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair back Trump's plan for ending the war in Gaza — as do Israel, Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the European Council.

So, the ball's now in Hamas' court to end the 'genocide.' Don't expect much. Terrorists terrorize.

Matt Vespa, Senior Editor at Townhall. com: Wait, Hakeem Jeffries closed his office during the Schumer Shutdown?

Washington Reporter's own Matthew Foldi roamed Capitol Hill yesterday and wondered where the hell was Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the target of the Trump White House’s mariachi and sombrero video posts, trolling which has driven the New York liberal and his party insane. He wasn’t around. Temu Obama was AWOL. You’d think that the top Democrat in the House would show up for work. Jeffries' personal office was closed. Speaker Johnson’s personal and leadership offices were open.

Kurt Schlichter, conservative political commentator: We are winning even if it does not always seem that way.

Here are the facts. The Democrats are still in chaos. They can’t back off their psychotic policy prescriptions, like trans perversions, importing illegal aliens, and hugging criminals. Those are electoral poison. We must use those to beat down their positives. But we must build up our positives by continuing an agenda that combines peace and prosperity, with a special focus on young people and helping them get their own grip on the American dream. That’s why I’m optimistic about 2026. Donald Trump and his folks see the future is the young, not the crusty/commie, and hopefully Trump can convince, cajole, or compel the remaining Republican Fredocons to bring it in for the big win a year from November.

David Marcus, columnist for Fox News Digital: My run-in shows that, in Portland, it's the cops who are handcuffed.

Just as the useless authorities in Portland allow addicts and vagrants full run of the city, the same applies to Antifa. Even when a journalist is physically assaulted, as far as Portland police are concerned, the answer to 'Whose streets?' really is 'Antifa’s streets.'

Eventually, ICE agents appeared to disperse the crowd, and it seemed some arrests were made. But as for Portland cops, they may as well have been Barney Fife from 'The Andy Griffith Show.'
