Treutlen Splits Games

The Lady Vikings softball team of Treutlen County High School split their games last week. They defeated McIntosh County Academy, but lost to Wilcox County in a Region contest. vs. McIntosh

The Treutlen Varsity Vikings softball team dominated the Lady Buccaneers of McIntosh County Academy on Monday of last week, cruising to a 12-0 shutout victory.

Senior pitcher Ella Roberson delivered a solid performance, striking out 10 batters over 5 innings. Roberson allowed only 1 hit and 0 runs while walking 2.

Offensively, Taylor Gillis was a powerhouse for the Vikings, going 3-for-3 on the day with 3 RBI and 2 doubles. Gillis singled in the first inning and doubled in both the third and fourth innings.

The Vikings wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning. Ruthie Blair grounded out after a McIntosh County Academy error to score 1 run, and Taylor Gillis followed up with a single to the left side of the infield to score another. Treutlen added a third run in the second inning when Kenley Kight singled to center field on an 0-2 count.

The early lead continued to grow in the third inning as Taylor Gillis doubled to the left field line and Jada Wright grounded out, each scoring one run to help extend the Vikings' advantage to 6-0. Treutlen added 4 more in the fourth and 2 in the fifth on the way to the 12-0 victory. vs. Wilcox

The Treutlen Varsity Vikings softball team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 walk-off defeat to Wilcox County on Thursday after surrendering a late lead.

The Lady Vikings held a 4-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Wilcox County Patriots surged to victory on a dramatic 3-run home run to center field.

Wilcox County was the first to get on the scoreboard in the first inning with 1 run. The Vikings quickly responded in the top of the second when Kenley Kight singled up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the third inning, a home run to center field by Ruthie Blair gave the Lady Vikings a 3-1 lead. Treutlen added another run in the sixth inning to push their lead to 4-1. Wilcox came up in the bottom of the seventh and plated a run on an RBI hit, then came the big home run to win the game, 5-4.

This week Treutlen plated Warner Robins on Monday after presstime. They will play McIntosh again on Wednesday of this week then wrap up the regular season next week.
