Lady Bulldogs With 3 Big Wins

It was a good week for the Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team as they won all 3 games they played. They beat Emanuel County Institute on Monday, defeated the Brunswick High Lady Pirates on Wednesday, and then beat rival Vidalia on Thursday. Toombs impoved their overall record to 12-6, and they are 4-2 in the Region. vs. ECI

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs softball team defeated the Emanuel County Institute Lady Bulldogs with a final score of 3-1 on Monday, September 22.

Both teams were strong in the circle on Monday, but the TCHS pulled out the victory.

ECI got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second inning with a sacrifice bunt. They held that lead until the top of the seventh inning when Toombs rallied to take the lead. Toombs took the lead for good, 3-1, in the top of the seventh inning thanks to key doubles from Cyleigh Ennis, Taylor Bland, and Sage White.

Taylor Bland earned the win for Toombs. The starting pitcher surrendered 5 hits and 1 run (0 earned) over 7 innings, striking out 3 and walking 1. vs. Brunswick

Toombs easily dispatched the Brunswick Lady Pirates on Wednesday, September 24, with a decisive 9-1 victory.

Brunswick was first to get on the board in the first inning when an error allowed 1 run to score. However, the Lady Bulldogs quickly responded in the bottom of the first when Cyleigh Ennis singled down the left field line, helping Toombs County tie the game at 1-1.

TCHS took the lead for good, making the score 4-1 in the bottom of the second, thanks to singles by Elly Haygood, Kylah Gay, and Natalie Quintero.

A sacrifice fly by Lindy Morris further extended the Toombs County lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Toombs added 4 more runs in the fifth inning, including two more RBIs from Morris. That gave TCHS a 9-1 win over the Lady Pirates.

Taylor Bland earned the win for the Toombs. The right-handed pitcher surrendered just 2 hits and 1 run over the game. vs. Vidalia

Toombs County wrapped up the week with a rivalry win at home over Vidalia on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs took a commanding early lead in the bottom of the first inning, with Natalie Quintero leading the charge by hitting a 2-run homer to left field. Toombs County plated a total of 5 runs in the first inning, with Elly Haygood and Londyn Johnson drawing walks to score runs, and a run scoring when Kylah Gay to hit into a fielder's choice.

A single by Lindy Morris in the bottom of the second extended the Toombs County lead to 6-0. The Lady Indians fought their way back into the game, tying the score in the top of the fourth inningat 6-6.

However, the Lady Bulldogs reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Sage White grounded out, scoring one run to make the score 7-6. TCHS added 2 more runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 9-6 win over Vidalia.

Taylor Bland earned the win for Toombs County, surrendering 6 runs (only 1 earned) on 9 hits over 7 innings, striking out 2 and walking 3.

This week TCHS faced off with Johnson County on Monday and played a Region double header against Savannah Christian on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday in a Region game against Swainsboro at home at 6:00 p.m. They will wrap up the regular season next week with two nonregion games against Appling County on Monday and Metter on Tuesday.
