Brewton-Parker Christian University's Cross Country team hosted the Barons Invitational on September 26. The Men’s 8k race saw the Barons take first place, beating out FSCJ (Jacksonville), Oxford College, and Savannah State. The Women’s Cross Country team was short of the necessary runners to qualify for a team score, but still saw some fantastic results in the 5k race.
Women
In the Women’s 5k, the Barons saw all of their runners finish in the top 15 spots with Lille Brown coming in with a time of 22:46 and RaaShonda Khalil clocking in at 27:16.1. The Barons saw Reese Bryant finish 11th with a time of 28:10.4 and finally saw Caryn Cummings placing 14th with a time of 29.55.5.
Men
In the Men’s 8k race, the Barons saw Samuel Skinner and Stephen Sirmans finish just 22 seconds apart to claim 2nd and 3rd place, gaining key points to help the Barons secure their top finish. Jonah Galli finished 7th with a time of 29:19.1 and beat out teammate Eric Smith by just 22 seconds. Jacob Hackenberry was the Barons' fifth runner, placing 12th with a time of 30:25.3. The Barons saw Zamarvian Green, Phillip Howard, Marqayvius McNeal, Dylan Fletcher, and Stephen Williams also run and finish ahead of several opposing schools' top five runners to help the Barons score more points.
Head Coach James Frank shared his thoughts on the team's performance, “The men’s team ran tough in getting the victory today. Our top six did exactly what they had to do in a tight contest. They wanted to keep our streak of winning our home meet alive.
'The ladies all had strong efforts. Lillie’s thirdplace finish was hard won. Everyone continues to improve.”
The Barons are set to compete at the Sandshark Invitational hosted by USCB on October 11. This will be their final competition for the regular season before the NAIA and SSAC postseason competition.
