Lady Eagles Get 1st Win

It was a busy week for the Montgomery County High School Lady Eagles softball team as they played a double header against Washington County and faced off with Wheeler County on Thursday. The bright side of the week was that MCHS picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Washington County in one of their games. vs. Washington Co. Game 1 The Montgomery County High School Lady Eagles started their week with a doubleheader against Washington County. In the first game, the Lady Eagles lost in a tight 7-6 contest. Despite the loss, the team's offense was strong, collecting 6 hits compared to their opponent's 5. Alexis Reaves and Grace Richardson each collected three hits.

MCHS got on the scoreboard in the top first inning when Alexis Reaves singled and Makayla Moore grounded into a double play, each scoring a run. Washington tied the game in the bottom of the inning at 2-2, and then took the lead in the second inning with 2 more runs to make it 4-2. MCHS came back to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning, but Washington added a run in the fifth to go back on top, 5-4. MCHS took the lead,6-5, in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of runs, but in the seventh inning, Washington rallied to score 2 runs and pull out the win, 7-6.

Game 2

The second game of the doubleheader had a very different outcome, with the Lady Eagles securing a dominant 19-9 victory. The team scored 13 runs in the fifth inning alone. Pitcher Grace Richardson earned the win, allowing only three hits and two earned runs over four innings.

The Eagles jumped out with 4 runs in the top of the first inning with RBI hits coming from Alexis Reaves, Grace Richardson, and Nora Cartwright. Washington plated 2 runs in the bottom of the first to close the lead to 4-2, but another run from the Eagles in the second made it, 5- 2.

Washington added 2 runs in the third inning, and after a run from MCHS in the fourth, Washington tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Eagles went to work in the top of the fifth inning as they scored 13 runs. Six of those runs came from bases loaded walks, but Reaves came through with an RBI single, Richardson added an RBI single, and Bailey Fountain singled in a run. By the end of the inning the Eagles were on top, 19- 6.

Washington did score 3 runs in the bottom of the frame, but it was not enough as MCHS took the win, 19-9. vs. Wheeler Co.

The Lady Eagles' week ended with a 12-0 loss to Wheeler County on Thursday. Wheeler County's offense was hot from the start, scoring 7 runs in the first inning. They added 2 more in the third inning and capped it off with 3 in the fourth to take the win.

Bailey Fountain started on the mound for Montgomery County, surrendering 13 hits and 12 runs (five earned) over 4 innings.

This week MCHS hosted Atkinson County on Tuesday after press time. They will be back in action on Wednesday with a double header at home against McIntosh County Academy with the first game at 4:00 p.m. They will then play a double header at Hawkinsville on Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m.
