CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Kurt Schlichter, conservative commentator and author: Democrat strategy avoids short-term pain but guarantees long-term agony.

They have backed themselves into a corner. They can’t do a U-turn and stop being obnoxiously obstructive because they’ve already designated Trump and everyone who voted for him as literally Hitler. There’s nowhere to go from there. You can’t reason or work with literally Hitler. To do so admits that the other side is not literally Hitler, and you’re kind of a jerk for lying about it. They certainly aren’t going to be able to do that, at least not until they get their butts kicked in a few more election cycles. While history is on their side for 2026, the economy is getting better, and if the economy is rocking, they are doomed. And then what will they do?

Well, if recent history is any indication, they’ll double down on dumb.

Dave Marcus, columnist for Fox News Digital: Bring back the Redskins, and everything else torn down by wokeness.

The message needs to be clear that when mistakes are made, our society can and will go back. Just as we went back from the 'progressive' policy of letting men play in women’s sports, we can go back to a time when we respected the past, instead of abhorring and eviscerating it.

2020 was a year of almost unfathomable destruction, loss of life, loss of liberty, and loss of historical monuments and names, but often, out of destruction grows renewal, and the owners of, as Trump currently puts it, the Washington Whatevers have a chance to bring that renewal to fruition.

So Hail to the Redskins, and the Roosevelts and Lincolns too. Hail to Columbus and his oceans blue. This is our history, and it is time for us to reclaim it.

Tim Graham, director of media analysis at the Media Research Center and executive editor of the blog NewsBusters.org: Networks pounce on Republican redistricting. They didn’t care when Democrats did it.

On August 5, PBS anchor Geoff Bennett repeated it: 'Some of the Democrats are in Illinois. They said today that the redrawn map would disenfranchise voters of color and that they're not backing down.'

By this definition, if you’re Black and you don’t get to vote for Texas Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett, your voting rights are denied. It’s explicitly racial: if Blacks don’t get to vote for a Black Democrat, we’re back in Jim Crow times.

Polls show the Democrats are a mess. The socialist Bernie bros (and gals) hate the party establishment, because it’s never woke enough. It’s not destroying capitalism and police departments fast enough. It’s not resisting deportations enough. It’s not supporting Islamists against Israel enough. Now they’re in danger of not gerrymandering enough. But you can’t win a majority if your polls are in the toilet.
