Montgomery County Schools hosted State Representative Leesa Hagan and local leaders at the Montgomery County Elementary and Middle/ High School campuses on Friday morning, August 1, as they began the school year with a ceremony at the flag poles.

During the ceremonies, Representative Hagan, students, school administrators, Board of Education members, and leaders came together to raise two new Georgia flags and the American flag, as they marked the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.

Montgomery County Schools Superintendent Ronda Hightower commented on the occasion. “Montgomery County School System leaders value the role legislators have in ensuring continuous improvement in public schools. Their willingness to be a part of ensuring all students' success is vital and greatly appreciated. More than ever before, legislators have a tremendous responsibility for considering needed legislation for public schools,” she explained.

Hightower continued, “We want to do all we can to collaborate with legislators and local leaders, so that they are an active part of seeing the great work taking place in our schools. As Get Georgia Reading says, 'It takes more than good schools, more than great teachers, more than loving parents. It takes all of us working together to ensure our students are successful in school, and subsequently in life.' We are blessed to have local leaders and legislators who are willing to help us accept this clarion call.”

“The morning was filled with excitement as students raised the new Georgia flag at each school, and then said the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. Seeing local leaders, Mrs. Hagan, and students kicking off the new school year together is a testament to the willingness of all to work together for the betterment of all students,” she emphasized.

These new flags will now be raised daily at the school’s campuses, as students continue to begin the new academic year.
