A Toombs County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a collision on Friday, July 4, which killed one 19 year-old.

Deputy Devin Spikes was driving north on Wilson Street in Jeff Davis County on the way to work from his house when he approached the four-way stop at the intersection of Wilson and Kersey Streets. Deputy Spikes came to a stop and did not see any vehicles within the area; thus, he began to proceed through the intersection. As the patrol continued from page

vehicle was about to clear the second lane of the intersection, a dirt bike ran into the driver’s rear side. The dirt bike broke into several large pieces, and the patrol vehicle was rendered inoperable.

Jadian Jamire Bouie, 19, of Hazlehurst, was driving west on Kersey Street on the dirt bike and was injured in the crash. Deputy Spikes, who was uninjured in the collision, began to render aid to Bouie and radioed to the Toombs County 911 Dispatch Center to let them know what happened and alert them of Bouie’s condition. The Dispatch Center informed the Jeff Davis County emergency response services of the incident.

In the meantime, while Deputy Spikes was continuing to help Bouie, he noticed a man jogging nearby and also told him to call 911. Deputy Spikes performed CPR on Bouie until a Jeff Davis County Deputy arrived on the scene and took over CPR until emergency medical services arrived. Bouie was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigated the crash. Based on the preliminary investigation, troopers believe Bouie was speeding above the 25 mph speed limit, failed to stop, and failed to yield at the intersection of Wilson and Kersey streets. Based upon the damage to the patrol vehicle and dirt bike, as well as Bouie’s injuries, it was determined the Bouie was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team will soon complete the investigation.
