Soperton PD Warns of Fake Cash Scam

The Soperton Police Department has issued a fraud alert to local businesses in the area, warning them to be aware of counterfeit money that has recently been attempted to be used during cash transactions within the city.
The Department has received reports of individuals trying to use “motion picture moncontinued from page
ey” to make purchases at businesses. These fake bills resemble real currency and can easily be mistaken as legitimate cash in busy settings.
To avoid being scammed by this fake cash, businesses should look for “MOTION PICTURE PURPOSE” or “COPY” printed on the bill in place of standard text. Also, the texture of the counterfeit bills will often feel smoother and thinner than actual cash. The ink and coloration of the counterfeit bills may vary from that of legitimate money, and often, these fake bills are missing key features, like security threads, watermarks, and color-shifting ink.
The Department advises business owners and employees to protect their businesses by being vigilant in looking for these signs of counterfeit, and to make others aware of the scam.
