Man Dies From Fireworks Explosion

A Vidalia man has passed away after being injured by fireworks on Independence Day.
Quinton Simpson, 43, of Vidalia, was lighting large fireworks along the 700 block of Sly Street at around 8 p.m. on Friday, July 4, when the fireworks exploded, causing him multiple injuries. Vidalia police officers and Toombs-Montgomery EMS responded to the incident within minutes, and began performing lifesaving measures on Simpson.
Simpson was transported to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia before being sent on to a medical facility continued from page
in Augusta for further treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries while in Augusta.
The incident was investigated by the Vidalia Police Department, who determined the death to be accidental. Vidalia Police Chief Robert Shore and other Department members expressed their sympathy for the victim’s family, as Shore stated, “[We] send their thoughts and prayers to the Simpson family.”
