The GRPA 8U District 1 Softball Tournament was held last week in Effingham County. Vidalia and Lyons both took part in the tournament, with Vidalia taking second place and Lyons coming in third.

LRD vs. Emanuel Co.

Up first for Lyons was Emanuel County. Lyons struggled to get the bats going as they fell to Emanuel, 15-3.

VRD vs. Rincon

Vidalia's first game of the tournament was against Rincon. Vidalia jumped out with three runs in the top of the first inning, but Rincon plated three in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3.

Vidalia added five more runs in the top of the third inning to take an 8-3 lead. Rincon scored a run in the third, but Vidalia plated five more in the fourth to extended their lead to 13-4. VRD held in the bottom of the fourth to take the win by the run rule.

VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

In the semifinals of the winners' bracket, VRD took on Emanuel County. Emanuel scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Vidalia answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 lead.

The game took a turn in the top of the second inning as Emanuel put 11 runs on the board to jump out to a 13-5 lead. Vidalia did add three runs in the bottom of the second to close the lead to 13-8, but two more from Emanuel in the top of the third made it, 15-8.

VRD added a run in the third, but eight more from Emanuel in the top of the fourth inning pushed their lead to 23-9. Vidalia managed just two more in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Emanuel took the win, 23-11.

LRD vs. Effingham Co.

Lyons played a tough game against Effingham in the losers' bracket, taking the win by just one run in a high scoring contest. Lyons picked up the win, 15-14, to keep their tournament alive.

VRD vs. LRD

In the semifinals of the losers' bracket, Vidalia and Lyons met up in a rivalry game for a chance to head to the Championship.

Vidalia took the early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. Lyons picked up a run in the bottom of the first, but Vidalia pulled away with seven runs in the second inning to lead, 10-1.

Vidalia added four more in the third to extend their lead to 14-1. Lyons plated a run in the third, but Vidalia answered with three more in the fourth inning to take a 17-2 lead. Lyons added two more in the fourth, but it was not enough as Vidalia won by the run rule, 17-4.

VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

Championship Vidalia picked up 11 hits in the game, but Emanuel did a good job of keeping them off the board. Vidalia did take the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Emanuel scored five in the bottom half to take a 5-2 lead, and they never looked back.

Emanuel added five more runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 10-2. VRD scored two in the top of the third, but Emanuel answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning, taking a 17-4 lead.

Vidalia scored one more in the top of the fourth, but it was not enough to keep the game going, as Emanuel took the win, 17-5, to win the Championship.

Next week Vidalia will take part in the State Tournament in Moultrie. Vidalia will play their first game next Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. against Lee County.
