Lyons 14U Girls Finish 2nd

The GRPA District 1 Softball Tournament was held last week in Vidalia. There were only three teams in the tournament, and all three of those teams will move into the State Tournament as Vidalia will again be hosting that event as well.

VRD vs. Emanuel Co.

The first game of the tournament was between Vidalia and Emanuel County. Vidalia held the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Emanuel came back with four runs in the top of the third inning to jump into the lead, 4-1.

Vidalia added a run in the bottom of the third, but two more from Emanuel in the fifth inning and another in the sixth gave them the win over Vidalia, 7-2.

In the semifinals of the winners’ bracket Lyons took on Emanuel County. Emanuel pulled away to win the game over Lyons, 7-1. That sent Lyons into the losers’ bracket to take on Vidalia.

In the only losers’ bracket game of the tournament, Lyons and Vidalia faced off in a rivalry game with a shot at heading to the Championship Game. It was a battle with Vidalia fighting their way back into the game, but falling just short.

Lyons put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning, and they added three more in the second inning to take an early 5-0 lead. Lyons extended that lead in the third inning with three more runs as they led over Vidalia, 8-0.

This is when Vidalia got to work as they scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and then added three more in the fourth inning to make the score 8-7. But that was all they could do as that was the score when the game ended, with Lyons taking the win, 8-7.

LRD vs. Emanuel Championship In the Championship, Emanuel ran away with the win over Lyons. Lyons could not keep up as Emanuel took the win, 12-2.

All three teams will play in the State Tournament next week in Vidalia. Vidalia will play their first game on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. against Grady County. Lyons will play on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. against Glynn County.
