Treutlen County Dive Team Helps Locate Missing Boater

A Treutlen County dive team assisted in the recovery of a missing boater in Dublin on Sunday, June 1, and Monday, June 2.

According to law enforcement officials, Christopher Brooks, 52, of Laurens County, was riding in a boat with his wife along the Oconee River near the Shady Field Boat landing on Saturday, May 31, when the boat hit a tree, causing it to crash. Brooks’ wife survived the crash, but Brooks never resurfaced.

Public safety and dive teams from Treutlen, Laurens, Dodge, and Baldwin Counties responded to the incident, and Brooks’ body was discovered downstream from the original crash site at around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 2.
