Montgomery County Elementary School 4th Grade Teacher Jennifer Cardinal was presented with the monthly Greater Vidalia Chamber Super Star Teacher award on Tuesday, May 13, making her the last recipient of the award for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Super Star Teacher award is an initiative the Chamber began last year to honor the extraordinary teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty, and ultimately, impact lives. The program is overseen by Chamber Director of Operations Amber O’Connor, who spoke on the opportunity. “The Chamber is excited to be able to offer this program to our community! We couldn’t think of a more deserving group of professionals in our workplace to be recognized for their dedication to students and their community,” she remarked. “A Superstar Teacher demonstrates excellence in leadership in their classroom along with motivation for their students. They show a high level of commitment to not only their students but their community.”

Cardinal was nominated for the award by her students, who highlighted her enthusiasm for learning in the classroom. The students wrote, ““Mrs. Cardinal makes reading so much fun and she truly cares about all of her students. She is a true shining star and that’s why I think she should be the SUPER STAR TEACHER!” and ““Mrs. Cardinal truly cares for each one of her students. She makes ELA (English Language Arts) so much fun. She has inspired me to love reading!”

Montgomery County Schools Superintendent Ronda Hightower spoke on the occasion. “We would like to congratulate Mrs. Cardinal for a job well done on instructing our students and earning this prestigious award from our Greater Vidalia Chamber,” she remarked. “We appreciate all that [Mrs. Cardinal] has done, and in the words of the student who nominated her, she ‘taught that kid to love reading!’ That is a great honor, and we are very proud of Mrs. Cardinal.”

Along with the award, Cardinal was given a gift by the program’s sponsors, Dermatology Associates, and the award’s monthly sponsors, Tres Chicas.

The award program will take a short break during local schools’ summer break, but the nomination process will be reopened in August to determine the new school year’s first honoree.
