The Vidalia and Lyons locations of Peoples Bank commemorated 90 years of business on Friday, May 16, as the bank held its 90th Anniversary celebration.

“It’s awesome to know the bank has been in business that long. There are probably not many businesses that have been in business that long. I can’t think of any others right now,” Peoples Bank CEO and Executive Vice President Wendell Dixon emphasized.

During the 90th anniversary celebration, the branches of the bank gave out free hot dogs, chips, cake, and lemonade for lunch to the public, as well as pens, pencils, koozies, key rings, hats, coffee mugs, and more. All Peoples Bank Board of Directors and employees were given special souvenirs with their names on them to commemorate the occasion.

The bank also held raffles in which they gave away a Bad Boy lawnmower, a Blackstone grill, a gift basket, Bluetooth speakers, and cash prizes. Natalie Lechot was the lucky winner of the lawnmower, while Glenn Mixon took home the grill. Bob Jones, Linda Cook, and Tasha Herin each took home a cash prize of $90, which was composed of $2 bills. Bill Steeken won the gift basket, and ten individuals took home Bluetooth speakers.

Peoples Bank was created in 1935 to provide customers with a small, local bank to offer a wide range of services. Since then, the bank has grown so much that it even offers two locations – one at 299 W. Liberty Avenue in Lyons and another at 2301 East 1st Street in Vidalia – to help customers with any needs they may have.

The bank also works to support local businesses, organizations, and schools, as it partners with the Altamaha Beekeepers Association, Sweet Onion Classic Golf Tournament and Auction, Boys and Girls Club of Toombs County, Action Pact, Downtown Vidalia Association, Kiwanis Club of Vidalia, Toombs County Development Authority, Leukemia Neighborhood Drive, Lyons Lions Club, Real Squeal BBQ & Music Festival, Lyons Main Street Association, Robert Toombs Christian Academy, Rotary Club of Vidalia, Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby, Greater Vidalia Chamber, Tales From the Altamaha, Mercy Ministries, Toombs County 4-H, Toombs County High School, Vidalia Heritage Academy, Vidalia High School, Vidalia Onion Festival, and United Way of Toombs, Montgomery, and Wheeler Counties.
