BPC Runs At SSAC Meet

The Brewton-Parker College Barons track & field teams displayed a commendable performance at the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championships in Hattiesburg, MS, on April 24-26. In a fierce competition with schools like Life, William Carey, Dalton State, and Loyola-New Orleans, the men's team finished 4th out of 8, while the women's team took 6th place out of 9.
Highlighting the event, the men's 4x100m relay team not only qualified for Nationals but also set a new school record with an impressive time of 40.91 seconds, thanks to the swift efforts of Donta Williams, TySheem Denton, Hollis Morton, and Travis Massey.
In individual accolades, TySheem Denton broke the 200m school record with a time of 21.39 seconds. On the women's side, Kendra Payne shattered the 400m outdoor school record by clocking in at 57.67 seconds. The women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Kameron Noble, Kendra Payne, Danaysia Roberts, and Sidni Daniel, set a new school record with a time of 48.45 seconds and took third place in the Conference Meet.
In field events, Hollis Morton captured the SSAC Champion title in high jump, reaching 2.00 meters. At the same time, Jonah McNealey qualified for Nationals in the triple jump, securing third place with a leap of 14.70 meters and reaching the podium in 3rd place. Yabaka Moore earned second place in the hammer and fourth in the shotput, contributing significant points for the team.
Both Talon Walker and Shonda Khalil secured third place in the javelin, rounding off a series of strong performances across the board. In the distance running, Brandon Williams set a PR in the 10k, and Eric Smith set a PR in the steeplechase. Cayden Restrepo finished third in the pole vault competition.
The Barons headed to Jacksonville, FL, over the weekend to compete in the Last Chance Meet at the University of North Florida. That was their final meet before Nationals.
Preparing For Nationals The Brewton-Parker Barons will showcase their athletic skills at the 2025 NAIA Nationals for Track & Field, scheduled for May 21-23 in Marion, IN. This prestigious event will feature a series of competitions in which the Barons aim to make their mark on the national stage.
Led by Tony Hawkins, the Director of Track and Field, and Stephen Roberts, the Head Track and Field Coach, the Brewton-Parker team is gearing up for a competitive outing against top-tier athletes from various colleges. With every athlete required to meet a set standard to qualify for nationals, the six members representing the Barons have already shown national excellence just to qualify. They will be going up against the best of the best from across the nation.
Among the key athletes to watch at the Nationals representing the Barons will be Travis Massey, Ty'Sheem Denton, Hollis Morton, and Donta' Williams, who will compete in the 4×100 relay. Solo events will see athletes like Javon Mclean in the long jump and Jonah Mc-Nealey in the triple jump. Travis Massey is also competing solo in the 100m race. These participants have showcased outstanding performances in the track and field circuit, promising an intense and thrilling competition.
The Brewton-Parker Barons, guided by their seasoned coaches, are looking forward to competing at their highest level, leveraging the hard work and preparation they have put in throughout the season. This event is an opportunity for the Barons to measure their capabilities against some of the finest collegiate athletes across the nation.
