A Vidalia man has been arrested after allegedly robbing Captain D’s in Vidalia on Saturday, May 10.

At around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday night, Vidalia Police Officers were dispatched to the Captain D’s restaurant, located at 701 E. First Street in Vidalia, in reference to an armed robbery. Officers arrived at the location within seconds and witnessed a suspect run towards the back of the nearby Planet Fitness building.

Officers chased the suspect on foot and located him near a drainage culvert on 3rd Street, in an area between Bay and Winona Streets. With the help of Toombs County Sheriff’s Deputies, officers were able to capture the suspect, who was later identified as Iran Darna Harris, 29, of Vidalia.

Because of reports of Harris having a gun, officers requested the Georgia Department of Natural Resources K-9 unit to help search the area for the firearm. The dog helped to find the gun – which had been illegally modified as a fully automatic handgun – near where Harris was continued from page

Harris is charged with 3 counts of aggravated assault (felony), one count of armed robbery (felony), one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony), one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony), one count of unlawful possession of firearms (felony), and one count of obstruction of an officer (misdemeanor).
