The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team took on Chattooga in the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs last week. They had a double header on Friday at home with the Bulldogs sweeping the Chattooga Indians to advance to the second round.

Game 1

The Toombs County Bulldogs opened Friday’s doubleheader with a dominant 8-1 win over Chattooga. Toombs took control early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brody Benton doubled down the left field line, followed by an RBI single from Lawton Toole, an RBI single from Nick Carroll, and a sacrifice fly from Tucker Braddy. That put the Bulldogs on top, 4- 0.

The Bulldogs continued to build their lead in the bottom of the third when Toole singled to score another run, Carroll grounded out to plate one more, and Joseph Owens delivered a tworun single. That pushed the Toombs lead to 8-0 over Chattooga. The Indians did manage to pick up a run in the top of the fifth inning, but the TCHS defense shut them down and took the win, 8- 1. Jackson Jenkins earned the completegame win on the mound, giving up just four hits and one run over seven innings while striking out eight. Offensively, Toombs collected nine hits, with Kipp Mosley, Toole, and Owens each recording two hits. Carroll, Toole, and Owens each drove in two runs. The Bulldogs were patient at the plate as well, drawing seven walks. Benton led the defensive effort with nine chances in the field, and Toombs played error-free baseball.

Game 2

In Game 2, the Bulldogs kept the momentum rolling, shutting out Chattooga 4-0. Toombs got on the board early in the first inning when Kipp Mosley singled to drive in a run for a 1-0 lead. Toombs added another run in the top of the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the seventh inning on the way to a 4-0 win to advance to the next round.

Ty Hutchinson turned in an impressive complete-game performance, scattering five hits across seven innings while striking out six and walking four.

Mosley, Cameron Ledford, and Toole each drove in a run, helping the Bulldogs capitalize on their opportunities. Toombs again showed strong plate discipline, working six walks throughout the game. Defensively, the Bulldogs turned two key double plays and once again committed no errors.

The two wins secured a sweep for Toombs County, who now moves forward to continue their playoff run and will face Haralson County in the Sweet Sixteen. They will play a three-game series beginning on Thursday with a double header in Lyons. The first game will kick off at 4:00 p.m. If necessary, they will play a third game on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
