On Thursday of last week, Toombs County High School standout athlete, Brinley Miller, signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Brewton-Parker College for the Lady Barons. Known for her sharpshooting skills, Miller has led the region in three-pointers made for the past two seasons and is a three-time All-Region selection. Miller was also a multisport athlete for the Lady Bulldogs and has been a part of the history setting softball team at TCHS.

She will be joining a growing program under the leadership of Head Coach Steve Edwards at Brewton-Parker. With her impressive shooting range and dedication to the game, Miller is expected to continue to develop at the collegiate level. Miller said, “I was really excited this morning when I got up, but as the day moved along, I did get nervous, but I know that this is the correct decision. I prayed about it, and I know that this is the path God wants me on, and as I was signing, things just felt right. Staying close to home was a big thing for me as well. My family is very important to me, and I wanted to stay close to them, and faith is also important to me, and I think that I can grow in that at BPC as well.

“I have a lot of people that I want to thank, but I have to thank my mom especially. She has always been supportive of me in everything that I do. Coach Walker was there for me through some dark times that no one else knew about, but she was right there for me. I want to thank my brother as well for sticking by my side. I also want to thank Maleke Day. He just worked with me over the summer, extra practices in the gym. He has been a big part of this as well.”

Lisa Miller, her mother added, “Today is emotional, but I am very excited for her. Brinley has never been one to stray too far from home, so I think that Brewton-Parker is a great fit for her. Coach Edwards at BPC is just a good, Godly man, and I am thankful that she is going to get to play for him. Brinley has had a few curveballs thrown at her, and her faith has got her through a lot. I think that the smaller college, it being faith based, and close to home, has a lot to do with her choice.” Lisa Miller has been one of the quintessential moms at TCHS over the year with her broad support of all teams, when asked if she is going to remain a part of the TCHS family since her kids have now graduated, she said, “I have been asked that a lot lately. My life has revolved around ball fields for so many years, and I am not going to go far. I might have to adopt a child here at TCHS, but I’m definitely going to be around…Go Dawgs!”

TCHS Head Basketball Coach Melody Walker stated, “Brinley Miller is an exceptional student-athlete. She is one of the best that I feel has come through this building. She is a wellrounded girl, her academics are solid, she is a great athlete, and she just works hard at everything that she does. She is so deserving of this opportunity. I think Brinley will fit right in at BPC. We will also miss her family, her brother was and has been a big part of things here at Toombs, and her mother has just been wonderful. She doesn’t just support her kids, but she supports all the kids in all the sports here at Toombs.”
