The Vidalia Recreation Departments 12u Boys All-Star team was in Bulloch County last week as they battled their way to a State Championship in the GRPA State Tournament. They had to come back through the losers' bracket to beat Wayne County twice to claim the title. vs. Summerville

Up first for VRD was Summerville on Tuesday of last week. Vidalia jumped out to a big lead in the top of the first inning as they plated seven runs. They added four more in the second inning as they were on top 11-0 over Summerville.

In the bottom of the second inning, Summerville got on the board with one run, and they added another in the third to make the score 11-2. Vidalia scored two more in the fourth inning on the way to a run rule, 13-2 win over Summerville. vs. Coffee County Up next for VRD was Coffee Coumty. It was another big win for VRD. They put four runs on the board in the top of the second inning and added four more in the third to take an 8-0 lead. Vidalia extended that lead to 11-0 in the top of the fourth inning with three more runs.

Coffee County plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but four more from VRD in the fifth closed out the game as they won 15-2. vs. Wayne County

That moved VRD into the semifinals of the winners' bracket to take on Wayne County. Vidalia couldn't get the bats going in the game as they fell to Wayne, sending them into the losers' bracket.

push their lead to 5-0. VRD came back with three runs in the bottom of the third inning to close the lead to 5-3, but that was all they could muster in the game.

Wayne held on to win the game, 5-3. vs. Summerville

VRD had a rematch with Summerville in the semifinals of the losers' bracket, after suffering the loss to Wayne County.

Summerville came out with two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. VRD picked up a run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 2-1.

In the fifth, the local boys took control as they scored four runs to go on top, 5-2. Vidalia took the win by that score to move into the Championship Game for a rematch with Wayne County. vs. Wayne County Championship Game 1 The first game of the Championship was a onerun battle that saw VRD take the win to force a second game to claim the title.

Wayne went on top with three run in the bottom of the first inning, but VRD bounced back with six in the top of the second to take a 6-3 lead.

VRD added two more in the third inning, but Wayne answered with five in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 8-8. Vidalia came through in the top of the sixth with one more run to take a 9-8 lead, and then the defense held in the bottom of the inning to take the win. vs. Wayne County Championship Game 2 The win for VRD set up a winner-take-all Game 2. This time Vidalia rolled to an easy win as they claimed the State Championship over Wayne County.

Vidalia scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the early lead. Wayne closed it to 2-1 with a run in the top of the third inning, but four more from Vidalia in the fourth inning put them on top 6-1.

Vidalia plated three more in the fifth inning on the way to a 9-1 run rule victory, and the State Championship.
