The 61st Annual Lyons Youth Tournament is in full swing as the 12u boys took part in the tournament last week. Vidalia took it all the way to the Championship where they forced a Game 2, but fell to Emanuel County.

In the first round of the tournament, Lyons lost their first game to Appling County, 10-8, to send the local team into the losers' bracket. Vidalia won their first game over Evans County, 11-0, as they advanced in the winners' bracket.

Vidalia was up next as they battled Long County in their next game. VRD came away with a 12-5 win to continue moving in the winners' bracket.

Lyons faced off with Glennville in the losers' bracket and saw their tournament come to an end. They dropped the game 18-0.

Vidalia was back in action on Wednesday of last week against Screven County in the quarterfinals of the winners' bracket. VRD defeated Screven in a close game, 6-5, to advance to the semifinals.

In that next game, VRD faced Emanuel County and fell in a low scoring game. Emanuel came out on top, 2-1, to send Vidalia into the losers' bracket.

Up next for VRD was Long County on Friday in the semifinals of the losers' bracket. Vidalia took the early lead, 3-1, in the first inning. Long closed it to 3-2 in the third, but VRD added two more runs in the game. They held off Long to take the win, 5-4, to move into the Championship Game.

In the Championship, VRD needed to defeat Emanuel twice to take the title, and they gave it all they had. Vidalia won on top 4-2 at the end of the third inning and went on to win the game, 8-7, to force a Game 2. In the second game of the Championship, Emanuel kept VRD off the balance and pull ahead to a 5-2 lead by the end of the fourth inning. Emanuel held on on over the next two innings to win the game by that score, 5-2. That gave VRD second place in the tournament, and the Championship to Emanuel County.
