On Saturday, January 27, 2024, four members of the Vidalia High School Chess Team competed at the East Georgia State College Chess Tournament, which involved 31 players from schools in Emanuel, Toombs, Bulloch, and Richmond counties.

VHS sophomore Nathan Britton won Individual First Place with 5 wins and no losses. Ethan Hart, another sophomore, was the champion continued from page

of the schools from Toombs County with 4 wins and only 1 loss. Sophomore Nate Landon won 3 games, lost one, and played to a draw in a fifth game. Aidan Ellis, another Sophomore from VHS, had a competitive 2-3 record.

This marks the third Chess tournament of the season that a VHS student has won First Place overall. These four young men will be playing for the VHS Chess Team at the Georgia Chess Association's State Tournament in Lawrenceville on March 16, and they plan to continue preparing for another strong showing at State as they finished in the Final Four in 2023.
