Chick-fil-A Hosts Annual Race

The Chick-fil-A Road Race was held on Saturday in Vidalia and was another big success. With over 400 runners and over $60,000 raised for charity, it was a big day for the local restaurant and the organizations that the race benefitted.

1 Mile Race

In the 1 mile race Kevin Vega of Hazlehurst took the top spot, Joseluis Mendoza of Hazlehurst was 2nd and Jovani Barragan of Hazlehurst was 3rd. The top female was Anna Hudson Hamilton of Vidalia.

5k Race

In the 5k race Toombs County Middle School runner and 8th grade State Champion cross country runner, Juan Luna, took the top spot overall with a time of 17:29.8. Briley Reyes of Hazlehurst was 2nd and Pierce Parlor of Hazlehurst took 3rd.

For the women, Virginia Meredith at just 9 years old came in first in a time of 22:39.9. She was followed by Alexandra Uribe of Hazlehurst and Vicki Forrest of Phenix City, AL, who was also the female Master's winner at the age of 61.

10k Race

Forty-nine-year-old Darren Crooks of Byron, GA, took the top spot in the 10k race with a time of 39:26.9. Eli Debevec of Claxton was 2nd and Jace Carden of Vidalia was 3rd.

Lindsay Crews of Modoc, SC, was the top female in a time of 53:34.9. Rebecca Proenza of Vidalia was 2nd and Sydney Thigpen of Vidalia was 3rd.

Another bright spot on the day came from the final woman to cross the finish line. Joyce Hodges-Hite of Millen, GA, may have come across the line in a time of 1:40:56.9, but the 85-year-old woman came across with a crowd of people following and rooting her on, showing just what this race is all about.
